Mac Vs PC for Video Editing | Which is Better?

Mac Vs PC for Video Editing | Which is Better?
Video Editing on a PC vs Mac Computer is something people debate about. Video Editing mostly comes down to specs.

When you’re doing video editing on a computer it’s not about user experience or OS preference. Time is money and rendering time and editing time is driven by hardware considerations that Apple Mac computers are not very flexible on. Mac’s can do video editing both on the desktop and laptops.

However video editing with high end GPU’s and multiple drives including SSDs are an important consideration. The new Mac computers including the iMac, Macbook Pro and Mac Pro don’t allow for multiple drives unless you attach external drives via USB or Thunderbolt.

The Mac Pro towers used allow for this but they were discontinued. Video Editing on a PC by contrast means you can use robust full size GPU’s and also multiple SSD’s or HDD’s. They are also upgradeable for up to 64GB of ram which current Mac computers are not.

Hey Roberto! Do you have a video comparing the Mac Air vs the Mac Pro for video editing purposes? (& storage etc.)

  2. fedism says:

there is a " pc vs mac .. fight! " video with benchmarks where a simple mac book pro blows away a pc tower and windows laptop using FCP while adobe laggin on all computers during the render time. is there a work around for pc users or a trade off? thanks

  3. Brandon Rojas says:

I have been considering leaving apple and I think this video really sold me on it.

  4. Cinemmon says:

I want to use final cut 7

  5. Bryan Luikart says:

You created awesome with your commentary.

  6. Mash Machine says:

I doubt I'll ever go back to Windows, but you're totally right about Windows being a better setup for 4K editing. I like no viruses, no defragmenting, super streamlined.

  7. Beanie Draws says:

This was suggested to me while I was watching your premiere export settings vid 🙂 Good work youtube with good suggestions.

10 years ago I switched to mac because my design course FORCED us. They literally had no PCs and over time I grew to love them. I had the 2006 macbook pro and 2011 macbook pro. I JUST missed out on the retina one.

The macbook pro 15" used to cost me $2500aud per iteration for the top of the line model. Now it's $3000 for the lowest end model with LESS storage than the 2011 model. The 512gb hard drive version costs $4250aud @#$% that! That price tag is an insult no matter how revolutionary a low-resolution touch bar is.

Not to mention Apple's shady treatment of repairs. Get your device repaired at a 3rd party repairer when your warranty expires and you run the risk of bricking it. I follow a tech repair channel who stated that the current (2017) model macbook pro is basically irreparable and designed to be replaced. I have fond memories of upgrading the ram and hard drive myself back in the day. You could even take out the redundant optical disc drive and install a secondary internal hard drive. These days it just feels like apple couldn't care less about their customers, and forcing whoever is left to make up the revenue they're losing.

Meanwhile I'm about to build a machine that will DESTROY a mac in every conceivable operation, for half the price.

    I feel you bro. THANKS!

  9. Keith Stephens says:

Yep you nailed it man. Putting brand aside Im interested in the value and price Im paying. Ordering the parts to my new pc today so pretty stoked. gtx1080 ti 7700k and all themed black and white ssd hdd…its exciting. I love the customization you can have being able to upgrade and build what you want. Great video

  10. Andriy WE says:

Thanks man, a good video. I do love Apple products specially mobile devices. But with Windows PC you just get more, working, rendering, gaming etc. Just iOS has much stable software and decent look of one screen.

  11. Days Tech says:

    I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM.

  12. Raúl Hernández says:

I always say to people: "don't go fanatic on this one". A PC can do just fine; a MAC can do fine as well. PC users have always been ahead in terms of specs, and MAC users have forever loved their thing. Use whatever system you like, because performance is questionable and it doesn't always come down to render times. What's important is not the computer, is what you do with it because a computer is a tool. Just pick whichever you like!

  13. Jonny Sound & Video says:

I switched to Windows PC too and built my own PC with the exact parts I wanted. And a year later I can update exactly what I want at the time I need to. My iMac would overheat, and had virtually zero upgrade capability.

  14. Felipe Olvera says:

    Apple is dead.
